AMRC Researchers Head to UK’s Manchester University

Three associate researchers from the Advanced Materials Research Center (AMRC) are currently pursuing their further studies at the top-ranking University of Manchester in the UK- and will significantly add value to the Center on their return. The students are part of the Advanced Technology Research Council’s NexTech programme, which fast tracks exceptional UAE nationals with an interest in STEM into promising R & D careers.

Shamma Alhashmi, a senior engineer within the nanomaterials team, is working towards her PhD in chemical engineering at the red brick university. Her research project involves synthesizing 2D materials for catalytic applications. She is confident that this discipline will improve her experience of synthesizing 2D and nanomaterials, which can considerably enhance research outcomes for her team.

Mohamed Alnuaimi, an engineer with the smart materials team at AMRC, is studying for a master’s degree in Advanced Engineering Materials. His research topic is related to lead-free piezoelectrics. He hoped to study diverse compositions for lead-free-based piezoelectrics with different heating treatments applied to them to enhance their piezoelectric properties and enable their use in a variety of applications.

Omar BaNabila is also working to achieve a master’s in Advanced Engineering Materials. He is studying material damage after impact by reconstructing 3D material images using computerized tomography (CT).

Dr. Mohamed Al Teneiji, Chief Researcher at AMRC, said: “Studying abroad offers our researchers multiple benefits. In addition to improving their academic skills, this experience enhances their intrapersonal skills and problem-solving abilities while enabling them to interact with diverse students and cultures. I am confident their time abroad will help them to produce quality papers and raise the chance of patent registration and innovative inventions.

“We wish them well and look forward to seeing the significant knowledge they garner translate into tangible outcomes on ground as we push forward with our breakthrough research at our new state-of-the-art labs.”
