Dr. Giuseppe Del Guercio
Mr. Del Guercio, Researcher, holds a BSc in Mechanical Engineering and a MSc in Additive Manufacturing (AM) from Politecnico di Torino (Italy). In 2019, he joined the Centre for Additive Manufacturing (CfAM) at the University of Nottingham (UK) as a PhD student with a project entitled “Hot cracking elimination strategies in aluminium alloys fabricated by PBF-LB”. Since the start of his PhD, he’s been involved in numerous research works focused on the understanding of the dynamic thermal conditions experienced by AM materials during rapid solidification and the effects of chemical composition on the formation of hot cracks. In order to answer his researcher questions, Mr Del Guercio adopts high-fidelity computational techniques coupled with targeted experiments to correlate the thermal history of PBF-LB with the resulting microstructures. The aim of his research is to optimize difficult-to-print engineering materials of high demand in the aerospace and automotive industrial sectors and of particular interest for the scientific community. His works have been presented in numerous international conferences and published in well-established scientific journals.
