Title: | Thermodynamics and quantum computing |
Abstract: | The study of out-of-equilibrium thermodynamics of quantum systems has received increasing attention in recent years thanks to tremendous theoretical and experimental progress. Similarly, we are witnessing an enormous interest in applications of quantum computing for the current generation of noisy quantum computers. In this seminar, I will discuss the synergy between these two seemingly separate areas. As a first application, I will show how the thermodynamics of open quantum systems can be simulated on quantum devices using collisional models. As a second application, I will show how thermodynamic-inspired control protocols can assist in the implementation of fast quantum annealing schemes. |
Bio: | Gabriele De Chiara is a Reader (Associate Professor) at Queen's University Belfast. Previously, he held positions in France, Spain and Italy. His main interests lie in quantum thermodynamics of many-body quantum systems, quantum control, quantum correlations and entanglement. |
