Underwater Internet of Things
Underwater Internet of Things (U-IoT) have found important applications in several sectors, such as ocean exploration, environment and infrastructure monitoring, oil and gas industry, offshore fishery and shipping, as well as military and coastal defense. This talk will first introduce some of the existing U-IoT applications that utilize acoustic wireless communications, then it will focus on a particular miniature fish tag and its advanced detection algorithms. Finally, several practical projects that Dr. Zheng’s lab is working are introduced.
Yahong Rosa Zheng received the Ph.D. degree from Carleton University, Ottawa, ONT, Canada, in 2002. She was an NSERC Postdoctoral Fellow for two years with the University of Missouri-Columbia. Then, she was on the faculty of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Missouri University of Science and Technology for 13 years. She joined Lehigh University in Aug. 2018 as a professor in the ECE department. Her research interests include underwater and underground IoT, compressive sensing, wireless communications, and wireless sensor networks. She has served as a Technical Program Committee (TPC) member for many IEEE international conferences and Associate Editor for three IEEE journals. She is currently a senior editor for IEEE Vehicular Technology Magazine and an Associate Editor for the IEEE Journal of Oceanic Engineering. She is the recipient of an NSF faculty CAREER award in 2009. She has been an IEEE fellow and a Distinguished Lecturer of IEEE Vehicular Technology Society since 2015.
