XXXIV General Assembly and Scientific Symposium (GASS) of the International Union of Radio Science

The 34th General Assembly and Scientific Symposium (GASS) of the International Union of Radio Science (Union Radio Scientifique Internationale-URSI) will run at Sapienza Faculty of Engineering in Rome, Italy, from 28 August to 4 September. URSI’s symposiums are held every three years to review current research trends, present new discoveries, and plan for future research and special projects in all areas of radio science.

Thousands of scientists from URSI’s 10 scientific commissions will attend this year – both in-person and virtually. GASS also serves as an opportunity to encourage young people in our industry with the Young Scientists Awards and Student Awards that acknowledge their remarkable contributions.

Technology Innovation Institute’s Directed Energy Research Center (DERC), led by Dr Chaouki Kasmi, Chief Researcher of DERC and vice-president of the Commission E for France and early career representative for the Commission E at the international level, will jointly present the following tutorial prepared with David Martinez, Felix Vega, and Nicolas Mora:

  • Su-ET-PM2-1: High Power Electromagnetics: Effects on analogue and digital electronics

DERC will also present five scientific papers at this year’s GASS, focusing on the Center’s advances in electromagnetics and optoelectronics:

  • Sa-D09-AM2-3: Optoelectronic Oscillator for mm-Wave generation
    • Juan Coronel, Steevy Cordette, Guillaume Matras, and Chaouki Kasmi
  • Mo-E02-PM3-1: Laser-based Control of Spark Gap Switches: Topologies and Considerations for HPEM Applications
    • GuillaumeMatras, Amit Dubey, Abdul Baba, John Pantoja, Antaryami Mohanta, Nicolas Mora, Felix Vega, and Chaouki Kasmi
  • Mo-E02-PM3-2: Planar Reflector Configurations for Beam Steering in High Power Microwave Applications
    • Luciano Oliveira, Adamo Banelli, Felix Vega, and Chaouki Kasmi
  • We-E11-AM2-3: Detection and Identification of UAVs based on Spectrum Monitoring and Deep Learning in Negative SNR Conditions
    • Fares Mehouachi, Juan Galvis, Santiago Morales, Milosch Meriac, Felix Vega, and Chaouki Kasmi
  • Tu-FIP-E02-4: A Framework for the Statistical Analysis of a Vircator Surrogate Model
    • Mae Al Mansoori (1,3); Ernesto Neira (1); Sebastien Lallechere (2); Felix Vega (1); Lars Fichte (3); Zouhair Nezhi (3); Chaouki Kasmi (1,3); Marcus Stiemer (3)
