AIDRC’s Researchers Receive Best Paper Award at 2022 IEEE Global Communications Conference Banner

Kudos to Prof. Mérouane Debbah, Chief Researcher, Dr. Daniel Benevides da Costa, Principal Researcher, and Arthur Sousa de Sena, Researcher, AI and Digital Science Research Center (AIDRC), for winning the Best Paper Award for their research study, titled “RSMA for Dual-Polarized Massive MIMO Networks: A SIC-Free Approach”. The team was recognized at the 2022 IEEE Global Communications Conference (GLOBECOM) - Wireless Communications Symposium on December 4 – 8 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The paper explored the polarization domain and proposed a dual-polarized RSMA (rate-splitting multiple access) technique for a downlink massive MIMO (multiple-input multiple-output) network.

The findings shed light on a promising novel dual-polarized MIMO-RSMA strategy which relaxes the computational burden imposed by SIC (successive interference cancellation) and can overcome the existing interference issues of the original RSMA protocol. Furthermore, the novel dual-polarized strategy can deliver impressive data rates that outperform state-of-the-art baseline systems.

IEEE GLOBECOM is one of IEEE Communications Society’s two flagship conferences dedicated to driving innovation in nearly all aspects of communications. This year’s theme was “Accelerating the Digital Transformation through Smart Communications”.

We are extremely proud of the success and contributions of our AIDRC team and look forward to seeing many more!
