Congratulations to our Directed Energy Research Center (DERC) for being awarded a grant of US$1.5 million by the UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science (UAEREP) at its 5th Cycle Awarding Ceremony, which took place on January 23, 2024, at the Emirates Palace Hotel, Abu Dhabi. The event showcased the newest awardees and their contributions to the program’s ongoing commitment to advancing global water security.

UAEREP is a global research initiative designed to advance the science and technology of rain enhancement by offering managed grant assistance to select teams of researchers. Launched under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court, UAEREP aims to promote scientific advancement and stimulate the development of new technology in this area, as part of its function as one of the seven pillars of the UAE Innovation Strategy.

The DERC High Power Lasers and Applications department was recognized for its continu-ous efforts in developing innovative, sustainable, and chemical-free approaches to rain en-hancement. This recognition comes as a result of in-depth research on laser-induced rain and the development of a cutting-edge mobile high-power pulsed laser, incorporating remote sensing technology.

The team’s breakthrough solutions is expected to play a pivotal role in bolstering water secu-rity and reducing the adverse effects of global warming!
