Our very own Mae AlMansoori, Senior Researcher (Mechanical) at the Directed Energy Research Center (DERC), has received international applause – becoming the first woman from the UAE and region to win the Mojgan Daneshmand Grant that was launched last year. Conferred by the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (AP-S), the grant hopes to increase women’s visibility at the annual IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation and USNC-URSI Radio Science Meeting – with the upcoming edition of the meeting set to run in Denver, Colorado in the United States from July 10 to 15, 2022. Al Mansoori will receive her award at the event and present a scientific paper in front of the elite audience of intellectuals.

The eponymous grant, named for late IEEE colleague Prof. Mojgan Daneshmand, whose research achievements and commitments to the Antennas and Propagation Society offered a model to promote women in science, gives awardees a chance to participate in person in the upcoming meeting. AlMansoori will receive a cash prize of US$1,500 and join the banquet as part of the symposium.

As part of the selection process, AlMansoori was required to submit a presentation of her track record in research and key milestones. The evaluation team also factored in her number of years of experience. The 2022 grant cycle has named 12 winners in total – including two from India, two from Canada, two from the United States, one from Italy, one from the United Kingdom, one from Turkiye, one from the UAE, one from Australia, and one from Mexico.

Mae AlMansoori received her MSc in mechanical engineering from Khalifa University, Abu Dhabi, UAE. She served as a researcher in Aerospace Research and Innovation Center at Khalifa University, focusing on structural designing. Her research interests cover structural designing, materials and mechanical analysis, additive manufacturing, and heat exchangers. AT DERC, she is currently working on designing and manufacturing Electromagnetic radiators, Electromagnetic absorbing metamaterials, and 3D printed lenses. AlMansoori won the Young Scientist Award from the International Union of Radio Science (URSI) - German Section at the 2020 edition of the Kleinheubacher Tagung Conference.
